There were two tours on Thursday. Tour #1 was to the Michigan State Horticultural Gardens followed by a cruise on the Michigan Princess with a lovely buffet with strolling musicians!! Tour #2 was to the R. E. Olds Transportation Museum then off to Michigan State for a tour of its super-conducting cyclotron followed by a stop at the MSU Dairy store for ice cream!
Thursday evening we enjoyed the popular “Meet and Greet”. This is a time for sharing and getting to know each other better. Many things were shared and First Timers were recognized!
The book for discussion was “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society” by Mary Ann and Annie Barrows. This book had mixed reviews by our readers. The discussion was interesting! Mariann Simmons made bookmarks for the book to be read for the fall meeting!
Friday evening, Dave Heckel told us how to “spice up our lives” by using spices and herbs! He told about the many spices and how to use them in our cooking.
A lovely surprise was a slide show of many of our members! It was fun to see everyone and a little sad to see the ones that have passed.
Following the luncheon Saturday at 11:30 A.M. – Russ Herner shared information on the Cathedrals of Europe from his recent book. He showed slides of the many cathedrals he has visited and also had a display of some of the tools that would have been used to build them!!
2018 is our 50th anniversary and there were many surprises and prizes. More are planned for the Cedar Rapids Iowa meeting in September 2018! Please plan to join us!! We look forward to visiting with old friends and making new ones!!
