You must be a member to attend as the meeting is closed to the public. You can join MWTCA by completing the application available on this website. Meeting badges are required for entry into all meeting functions without exception.
The Crowne Plaza located in Springfield, IL will host the 2017 Spring meeting of the Mid-West Tool Collectors Association. Room rate, good for three days prior and after the meeting, is $109 for double occupancy (breakfast is NOT included). These special room rates will only be available until May 27, 2017. Registration cost is $64 per person. Registration materials were mailed to members the week of April 17th.
The menâ€™s display theme for the Spring meeting will be â€śtool advertisingâ€ť. We would like to see what you have in signs, salesman samples, promotional items such as tape measures, rulers, etc.
Wednesday evening Welcome Reception will feature a Philly style cheese steak sandwich. The Hospitality room will open at 8 PM for dessert and refreshments.
Tailgate tool trading will start early Thursday morning. The menâ€™s program on Thursday evening will feature a presentation by David Heckel on Advertising Stanleyâ€™s â€śfour Squareâ€ť tools. On Friday we expect to have several demonstrators to show off their skills in the Trade Room. At 8:30 AM displays will be ready for viewing followed by tool trading at 10 AM. At 2:00 PM Ian Hunt from the Lincoln Museum will present a program on Lincolnâ€™s inventions and tools. Friday evening we are expecting another great auction. Please consider bringing tools to the auction as this has proven to be a great venue for their sale.
The Auxiliary display theme for the meeting is â€śLifeâ€™s Journeyâ€ť. You can display a few items or many to reflect your life and interests. Thursday evening will feature Meet and Greet with introductions and the opportunity for sharing. Friday will include the book review at 2 PM and Friday evening Kathryn Harris, retired Lincoln Library service director will depict Elizabeth Keckly, a former slave who was Mary Todd Lincolnâ€™s dressmaker and friend. On Saturday the Auxiliary luncheon will be followed by a presentation by Dave Pangrac on the AMAZING HONEYBEE.
For those members that can only attend on Saturday we again are offering registration for â€śSaturday Onlyâ€ť with the trade room opening at 6:30 AM. The Whatâ€™s It session will be held in the Trade Room at 10:30 AM. At 2:00 PM Terry Jones, Site Services, will present the history of Lincolnâ€™s New Salem. Refer to information provided on back page.
Saturday evening we will close out the meeting with a banquet, short business meeting, drawing of attendance prizes and a presentation by Randy Duncan, a member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters who are dedicated to bringing Abraham Lincoln to life through presentations that educate, entertain, and inspire. Bring your camera to show your friends you were with Abe.
Jim and Phyllis Moffett Collection
Jim and Phyllis are providing you with a special opportunity to view their collection at an open house prior to and after the meeting. Their farm is located 2 miles north of Modesto on Illinois Rt. 111 then ÂĽ mile west approximately 35 miles from the hotel. Open house is scheduled for Monday afternoon, 10:00-5:00 Tuesday and Wednesday and Sunday after the meeting. Watch for posted signs.
Tours. We have tried to provide flexibility so you can decide how and where you spend your day. During the day, the bus will leave to go back to the hotel at 11:30, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, and 3:30. Detailed pick-up locations/times will be in the packet you will receive at registration. Tours #1, #2, #3 all leave the hotel at 9 AM. After Tour #2 or #3 are completed (both take 1+ hours) the bus will drop you off in Old Downtown around 11:15 AM or take you back to the hotel arriving at approximately 11:45 AM. Tour #4 departs the hotel at 10:35 AM for Old Downtown Springfield where there are many restaurants and several small shops. The National Korean War Museum and the Old State Capitol are also located here, and you can tour these on your own. Tour #5 departs the hotel at 12:30 PM for the Lincoln Museum.
