M-WTCA Auxiliary Meeting
Ladies – while your men are busy looking at, talking about or buying tools, we offer an opportunity for you to enjoy yourself, learn new things and meet fun people. All women are automatically members of the M-WTCA Auxiliary and we hope you will participate. During the men’s programs, the women also have a program or activity scheduled that is always informational and/or entertaining
At the national meetings we are fortunate to be able to see interesting and educational displays that women create showcasing their collections or other items of interest. Each meeting has a theme and the ladies use creativity and ingenuity in their exhibits. The displays are judged and prizes awarded. It is an opportunity to view fabulous and interesting collections – and learn something new.
Our opening event at national meetings on Thursday night is usually a Meet and Greet. First time attendees are welcomed and members bring items they collect or craft or anything they might want to share about themselves. Some ladies do not want to do a display but are delighted to share one or more items in a casual setting. We have been fortunate to see and hear about many fascinating items and have an opportunity to get to know our members better. We also have a book club and try to read a variety of books. This group continues to grow in size. Discussions are always interesting and thought provoking. We have a ladies luncheon on Saturday at noon. Our national meeting always ends with a banquet on Saturday night for attendees. Our meals are great, the fellowship around the table is always interesting and we all look forward to some entertainment.
Our next meeting will be held in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania June 10 – 12, 2010. Camp Hill is located just across the Susquehanna River from Harrisburg, which is the capital of Pennsylvania.
Our auxiliary theme for Camp Hill is "The Pleasures of Your Life". Think about all the people, places or things that bring pleasure to your life and share a few of them with us in a display. This will be a great way for us to get to know each other better.
Thursday there will be a 3 hour bus tour of The National Civil War Museum in downtown Harrisburg. Follow the Civil War through the lives of 10 different people as you travel through the museum.
We will be holding a "Silent Auction" or "Chinese Auction" as some people call it on Friday night. We ask you to donate an item with a minimum value of $5.00. It may be a craft, new, or antique item. So begin thinking about what you might want to bring. We have done this in the past and always had lots of fun with it. It offers a great time to socialize and laugh together!
The book chosen for Camp Hill’s discussion will be The Quilter’s Apprentice by Jennifer Chiaverini. "Sarah McClure and her husband, Matt, have just moved to Waterford, PA. While Matt finds work with a landscape company, Sarah, an accountant, wants to try something new. With no leads and no offers, she is depressed and frustrated. When elderly Sylvia Compson asks Sarah to help prepare her family estate for sale, Sarah finds new friends, and Sylvia, a master craftswoman, agrees to teach Sarah how to quilt. Sarah's new relationship inspires an exchange of confidences; she learns about Sylvia's "family skeletons" while facing her own difficult relationship with her mother. Patiently piecing scraps of material, the quilters explore both women's lives, stitching details and solutions together slowly but with courage and strength. Chiaverini, a quilter herself, has pieced together a beautiful story in this first novel. Sarah and Matt are a charming couple who prove that problems really do have solutions." Women, daughters, sisters, and mothers will enjoy this book.
Our luncheon speakers on Saturday will feature Art & Joy Kushlan from Pennsylvania and Jim & Phyllis Moffet from Illinois. Both couples are long time M-WTCA members. They will educate and entertain us with "Unusual Kitchen Gadgets". We want to make this program fun and entertaining for everyone so bring your most unusual kitchen gadgets and see if we can "mix" them up!
Pennsylvania offers lots of interesting things to see and do. Plan to spend some vacation time and take in some of the sights. Let history come alive while visiting Gettysburg, Valley Forge, and Philadelphia. Treat yourself to shopping at the many antique shops and flea markets. Better yet, take a day to relax and get away with a beautiful drive through the picturesque Amish countryside. If outlet shopping and chocolate are more to your liking, then head towards Hershey, PA. Whichever direction you go, there are lots of things to see and do in Pennsylvania.
So make plans now to attend the M-WTCA Spring Semi-Annual Meeting in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania June 10 –12, 2010. We are all looking forward to some warmer weather and time to visit with old friends and make some new ones!
